ABOUT BLUESTOCKING GUIDES

Bluestocking Guides are designed to reinforce and enhance a student’s understanding and retention of the subject matter presented in the guide’s corresponding primer.

Each Bluestocking Guide contains the following types of questions and assignments:

Comprehension Questions relate to specific chapters within the primer and are designed to help ensure the student has understood key points presented in the corresponding chapter. Comprehension Questions include:

  • Definition
  • True/False
  • Short Answer/Fill-in questions

Application Exercises are given for certain chapters. Generally, these ask the student to apply the knowledge learned from the corresponding chapter of the primer to “real world” situations. This way, the student may personalize the information to better retain and apply the knowledge gained from the primer.  Application Exercises include:

  • Essay assignments
  • Research projects
  • Thought questions to facilitate student-instructor discussion

Suggestions for further study (books, movies, etc) are also given for certain topics to encourage students to continue to expand on the knowledge gained in the primer.

A comprehensive final exam is included.

Answers are located in the back of the study guide. Note: answers to some questions/exercises do not always have definitive answers, in which case the notation “answers will vary” will appear.

In addition to assisting the student in the retention of the subject matter, the study guide will serve as documentation of course completion.

COMMENTS ABOUT BLUESTOCKING GUIDES

“Thank you for writing the study guides. I used the Uncle Eric books with your study guides as a year of Math for my my girls. They loved it and so did I! We all learned a great deal.”

—Judi Heller

“I have been recommending your Uncle Eric books and study guides to homeschool families for years. I need new copies to show at my seminars!”

—K. D.

“Our son has gone through 4 of your books with study guides and really enjoyed each book. He graduates this year and is planning to study political science. He wants the other books we ordered to read after graduation.”

—A. C.

“We carry the entire line of Uncle Eric books and they have repeatedly been best sellers. Capitalism for Kids has also sold very well. Thank you for writing the study guides. I used the Uncle Eric books with your study guides as a year of Math for my girls. They loved it and so did I! We all learned a great deal. One of the things I have seen in here in the store is that parents are buying these books not just for their students, but also for themselves. For many, it is their first introduction to economics and for most, it is their first encounter with the truth about economics. Thanks again and keep up the great work!”

“The study guide will prove very helpful for families. The questions, of course, provide the student with the opportunity to learn the material, but the real value of the study guide is in starting discussions between the student and his parents and peers.”

—Martha Robinson, Homeschool Christian.com

“The guide offers several benefits for the homeschooling family. First, it provides the opportunity for written work and a final exam to check comprehension and to document school credit. Secondly, the essay questions give the family opportunities for discussion of Mr. Maybury’s points in light of current events. Third, the additional recommended books and videos allow for a robust study worthy of high school credit. Answers to all short answer and essay questions are included.”
